Sandra & Lazarus
Sandra & Lazarus destination wedding in Greece
If you picture yourself the movie my big fat greek wedding. And then a little less hollywood and a little more greek. That’s how my week in Greece was. Little did I know how this destination wedding would become when I sat on the plane with Sandra’s friends from Sweden, but I started to realize when the 35 degree humidity hit me and we stopped on the road to get some gyros. Lucky we had Lazarus to order for us since we definitely were not in any tourist area. Once we arrived to Lazy’s parents house and we checked in on top of the granny flat it was livin la vida loca, sleeping in the bikini with a little fan on the side and showering but sweaty two minutes later. My camera literally ran out of my hands. But every single moment with Sandra & Lazy’s family and friends in Thessaloniki was worth it. To be able to experience a new culture, traditions and friendships up and close, with my camera to document was the biggest blessing. I will never look at going to Greece as a tourist again since this was the true experience. I hope my images can reflect the smells, the heat, the bonds, the dances, the rhythms, the generations, the traditions, the music, the food, the rituals and the love between Sandra, Lazy and their loved ones. We begin the story with the street party arranged by the community in honor of Sandra & Lazy’s big day – true greek style.
